Teresa of Calcutta, Modern Day Saint

September 4, 2016, Mother Teresa was officially recognized as a "Saint".

I have always been inspired by her work with the poor and her respect for life.

In my heart, and perhaps yours, 2016 FEED A FAMILY will be dedicated to this saintly, humble woman who loved the poor and needy.                   I want to share a few quotes from St.Teresa of Calcutta that speak of what we do and why we do it!

Why don't we just collect money and go shopping and have the needy come to us to get their food?  Why do we involve so many people in this outreach?  The following quote goes for our volunteers and those we serve.....

"I do not agree with the big way of doing things.  To us what matters is an individual.  To get to love the person we must come in close contact with him.  If we wait till we get the numbers, then we will be lost in the numbers.  And, we will never be able to show that love and respect for the person."

Autumn, Winter, Spring or Summer......

"Love is a fruit in season, and no limit is set.  Everyone can reach this love."

Young and old, different denominations and faiths, religious and secular.....

"What you can do, we cannot do, and what we can do, you cannot do, but together we can do something beautiful."

Many ways to help in this program, from saying a prayer, to a couple of cans in a school food drive, to choosing a family to feed, to volunteering to deliver.....

"How do we love?  Not in big things, but in small things with great love."

A reminder to myself and all our volunteers.....

"Everybody should see kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in your warm greeting."

You'll be hearing more thru this season......Pray for us, St. Teresa of Calcutta!

FEED A FAMILY 2015

FEED A FAMILY’S 2015 Community Thanksgiving Food Program was a wonderful and ongoing success!

The generosity of all who participated, from bringing a can or two for a school food drive, to Turkey Tag Family Boxes filled, to many volunteer deliverers, is a sight to behold! We received a record amount of School Food Drive Donations. This helped us supplement some family boxes, giving extra to large families and all leftovers have been shared between eight local churches. We helped two other groups fill their needs for Thanksgiving. And, three groups that gave out Christmas baskets benefitted from the bounty received!

FEED A FAMILY delivered abundant boxes of food and frozen turkeys to 440 families from Kent Island to Centreville. Fourteen Churches and Twelve Businesses displaying tags, Nine Schools and Two Churches doing food drives, hundreds of volunteers filling tags, organizing and delivering and the yearly donation of EbbTide Tent & Party, Victory Packaging, Lowery’s Fresh Produce, Farmer Johns, RJH Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Services, Douglas Development, The Narrows Restaurant and the gift of bread from KIVFD Women’s Auxiliary and Wye of Carmichael UMC, makes “Loving Your Neighbor” a great community event. So, thanks again from the FEED A FAMILY TEAM and we wish you a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year!
